Variable Pie
This is the N4V FOR WEBI Wiki page for the Variable Pie widget.
Updated for N4V 2025.3.4
Render
Description
- Pie chart made up of sectors.
- The size and depth of the sectors are the indicators of the dimension to be represented.
- The depth measure is optional.
- Possibility to drill on each sector to display new variable pie chart.
- Possibility to use the functionality of linked elements on this graph.
How-To Video
Parameters
- Dimension 1 : Dimension
- Dimension 2 to 5 : [Optional] Drill Dimensions
- Measure 1 : Measure the sector size
- Measure 2 : [Optional] Measure the sector depth
Animations
- Display the tooltip when you move the mouse over the slices of the pie.
- When clicking on a slice, this one is detached from the pie
- If an element linking is defined on the chart, when clicking on a slice, the linked chart is filtered with the corresponding dimension value
Navigation
Use the Webi native element link function to make this graph interact with other elements of the same report (native Webi tables / graphs and / or Need4Viz graphs). Element binding can be defined on all objects or individually on one of the dimensions of the graph. By default, the link is active only on the last level of drill, change the option in the extended parameter (selection) to activate the link on each level.
Settings
You can find instructions for accessing settings for Need4viz graphics: Format Custom Element.
For the Variable Pie , the available parameters are :
Global
- Palette and Style
- General: You can use the palette tool to define the colors used to build the graph.
Extended parameters
- Global → See the user guide for the “Global” section here
- Menu → See the user guide for the “Menu” section here
- Options
- Global pie size: This setting allows you to fix the size of the pie (in percentage of the frame). This avoids variation of pie size in drilldown or when multiple pies are side by side and number/size of labels are different. The Fixed pie size (%) parameter is ignored when the Fix the pie size checkbox is unchecked (default).
- Inner disc size: This setting allows you to resize the size of the internal disc (in percentage). The default value (20%) gives the pie chart a doughnut-like appearance. Setting the value to 0% renders a traditional pie chart while setting to 80% gives the pie chart a ring-like appearance.
- Angles: These settings allow you to define a start angle (default is 0 and is corresponding to vertical starting) and if you want a semi-circle or not.
- Chart colors: The gradient effect checkbox adds a subtle gradient effect to each pie slice. The monocolor chart checkbox colors the first pie slice with the first color in the color palette assigned in the "Global" section with each following pie slice in a lighter hue. However you can specifically choose a custom color here.
- Borders: Set here the border aspect (size, color, radius) of the slices
- Null values: This setting allows you to not display sectors with null or 0 size value
- Labels: This setting allows you to set the label options (Hide, Font, Crop, Align, Outline). Distance of the labels to the border of the pie can also be set (negative value places the label inside the slice).
- Central label: This setting allows you to set the central label font (if it is enabled in measures).
- Sorting : Choose here to sort the sectors on ascending or descending dimension or measures
- Selection → See the user guide for the “Selection” section here
- Controls → See the user guide for the “Selection” section here
- Tooltip → See the user guide for the “Tooltip” section here
- Legend → See the user guide for the “Legend” section here
- Size
- General display: This setting allows you to specify the name of the measure in the labels (replaces the Webi object name, %SECTION% N4V variable can be used in the label), the unit to add as a measurement prefix or suffix as well as the measurement accuracy. The measurement display format (standard - e.g.: 2,345.67, compact - e.g.: 2.3K or compact long - e.g.: 2.3 thousand) can also be defined.
- Color Min/Max: Set the min/max highlighting here (specify the color for the value and/or the marker/column).
- Aggregation (drill and central display) : Define here the aggregate function to use when drilling and/or aggregating measures in central display
- Central display : Enable here display of aggregated value in the central circle. You can also add a label in front of the measure. HTML can be used (use <br> to add a return carriage).
- Tooltip: This setting allows you to hide the value and/or percentage in the tooltip
- Label: This setting allows you to hide the value and/or percentage in the label
- Legend : You can display the percentage in the legend items. clicking on a legend item hides the associated slice and the percentages in legend are recalculated for the remaining slices.
- Depth
- General display: This setting allows you to specify the name of the measure in the labels (replaces the Webi object name, %SECTION% N4V variable can be used in the label), the unit to add as a measurement prefix or suffix as well as the measurement accuracy. The measurement display format (standard - e.g.: 2,345.67, compact - e.g.: 2.3K or compact long - e.g.: 2.3 thousand) can also be defined.
- Depth axis: You can choose here to start the depth axis value to 0 (instead of the min values of the dataset). This provide a more proportional render of the depths but a lower visibility of the differences when there are too many values to display.
- Aggregation (drill and central display) : Define here the aggregate function to use when drilling and/or aggregating measures in central display
- Central display : Enable here display of aggregated value in the central circle. You can also add a label in front of the measure. HTML can be used (for example, use <br> to add a line break).
- Tooltip: This setting allows you to hide the value and/or percentage in the tooltip
- Label: This setting allows you to hide the value and/or percentage in the label
